Batik or Batique is a "resist" process for making designs on fabric. The wax(mixture of bees + paraffin) is used on fabric to prevent dye from penetrating the fabric..leaving "blank" areas in the dyed fabric.

The motifs of Batik design has been changed from places to places. In Java, there were motifs evoked from nature i.e. the sun, the moon, birds and different geometric patterns like triangle, circle, square, diamond. Where in Shantiniketan, Kala Bhaban, India, the motifs are most likely ornamental.
Design Exploration/ Pattern Exploration:
For my inspiration, I studied my surrounding very well and got some beautiful motifs in nature. Here are the few from my sketchbook..
And I chose this one(motif) below for my Batik Assignment. I had prepared a sketch on paper first.
For coloring, I decided to follow White+one color format. And chose procion color in the shade Midnight Blue. This is how it looks after dying..

My final assignment consists a shift dress which has batik detailing on the front and back side.

Thank you.
